Sinful DesiresPrintable Copy

1 Peter 5:8 (New International Version)

8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I heard a story once about how to catch a wolf.  This is one of those stories that just stuck with me!

During the winter they would take a very sharp knife and coat it with animal blood.  Allow it to freeze and coat it again.  Until the knife blade was covered with a half inch layer of frozen blood.  The knife would then be wedged into the snow, water poured around the hilt would freeze the knife solidly with the blood covered blade sticking straight up.

The wolf with its keen sense of smell would be attracted by the smell of the blood.  The wolf would then start to lick the knife.  As the wolf tasted the blood, it would be frenzied by the taste.  It would lick and lick, unaware of the sharp blade beneath.  Finally the blade would be exposed and the wolf would continue to lick, not realizing now in this frenzy that the wolf was now tasting its own blood.  This wolf would continue into its own death.

This is what Sin does to us.  We taste what is forbidden, because it does taste really good.  Not realizing that truly at a point we are now devouring ourselves.  We continue to sin, and it leads to death.  Romans 6:16

There is hope, even after you have tasted sin.  It does not have to lead to death.  Repent, and turn to Jesus for help.
