Why Pray When God knows it already?Printable Copy

Matthew 7:7-12

Ask, Seek, Knock
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

1) Why talk to God when He knows it already?

Answer: We pray to honor God with our requests.  You can't bother God!  God wants to hear from you!

2) If God had pre-determined what He will do then why pray?

Answer: Prayer will bring us into harmony with God and His will.  This allows God to prepare us.  In prayer we become instruments of God's Will.

3) Does our prayer change God's Mind?

Answer: Three things never change with God! His character, His purposes, and His promises.  In prayer we are changed and we learn God's Will.  This allows God to work in our lives.  Then we become part of His Plan.

Exodus 32:7-14

Moses was faced with God threatening to destroy Israel.  Was this God's intention, to destroy Israel?  No! God needed Moses to face his stubbornness.  God needed Moses to change his desire.  God needed Moses to stand up as a leader for Israel.

Exodus 4:10-17 - In this passage Moses refused to lead the people.  In verse 13, he flat out said, "O Lord, please send someone else  to do it."

Did Moses change God's mind with prayer? No!  Prayer aligned Moses' will with God's!  Prayer changed Moses!

Prayer will change you...!
